if u dont have a visa u need to take USA dollars to get the visa at the airport its like $15...
money wise make sure u always carry atleast 20 egypt pounds worth of change for tips at all times. The average tip is like 1/2 pounds, but at resturants its like 5. Also cause you might have beggers asking for money and its always nice to give them atleast something....
im egyptian but living in england and visit egypt every year...so my advice is never take ur eyes off ur bag take good care of camera's NEVER put ur mobile in ur jacket cause of pick pocketers. pref in a bag witha zip facing towards u...the zip never facing backwards..
Careful crossing the road...they are pretty mad drivers, OH an TAXI'S! a distance of 5 mins drive is like 4 egyptian pounds (they will argue with u cause ur forgien but never pay more than 6 for 5 mins drive), 10 mins drive is like 8 pounds, anythin else sudnt cost more than 15- 20 at the most!! Dont make agreements with a taxi driver for them to take u all over cairo and bk to ur home. And if u prefer, there are now Yellow private taxi's, like in England and America, u call them they come to u, and the cost runs on a metre...its all air conditioned and comfy.
Dont eat street food, like from those lil carts, drink only bottled water, and any fruits/veg make sure they are washed throughly...Most important, try not to wear anything that will grab alot of attention, cause u will be stared at ALOT!!
OH AND SO IMPORTANT! ALWAYS HAVE A PHOTOCOPIED VERSION OF U PASSPORT! i took like 3 copies jst incase my passport was stole. Also find the address, and phone number of the nationality u are Embassy...So like i always had the british embassy address and number, jst incase.
Egypts pretty safe and SOOOOO much fun! its a total laugh!! but jst like any forgien country jst becareful! Last thing!! if u go to the pyramids, dont be cheated with the horse ride sudnt pay more than like 60 egyptian. If u have any egyptian friends u already kno take them with u, they will understand how to deal with them.
hope u have fun and hope all of this info helps u out!!!I am going to Egypt next week on a Nile cruise what currency should I take also any good advice would be appre
Hi
we went to egypt nd took lots of egyptian money however they accept american dollars and euros and english money as they get a better exchange rate so take a bit of everythingI am going to Egypt next week on a Nile cruise what currency should I take also any good advice would be appre
I guess that you know that you can get you visa at this end on arrival. it is really a lot less hassle that doing it from home.
I would advise you not to go buying a lot of U.s. dollars or Euro as you can use your normal savings account ATM card even if you don't have a credit card. every time you change money you loose some and then there is the hassle of going to a bank that will change Euros and dollars into L.E.. the Banque De Cairo does and they have branches in Cairo ,Luxor and Aswan.
So just bring enough to get you here, drinks on the plane etc and use the ATMs to draw L.E. I have never had problems with using the ATMs ,which I do almost daily.
If you are being met at the airport by your tour group rep. then it will save you having to face the swam of taxi drivers that will surround you as soon as you walk out of the airport. Remember here it is tradition to bargain to get the best price. I know of people who have paid over 100LE for a taxi from the airport to their hotel. You should not pay more than 60LE and that is generous.
Keep up your bottled water supply and make sure the bottles are sealed as there have been cases lately were tourists have bought recycled bottles filled with tap water.
Even though it is not high summer you need to drink a lot .Before you go to the sites stock up on what you will need as water, film, and souvenirs are far more expensive at places like The Valley of the Kings, water is 10LE a bottle there that around 3 times the price in Luxor.
You know you are going to have a ball and love every minute you are here. I think the hardest part of coming to Egypt is leaving it.
So, ahlan wa salaan Misr, or welcome to Egypt.
Take Euros, Sterling or dollars, the exchange rate in Egypt is very good. Bring your credit card too in case you need more that you estimated. On a Nile cruise all is included except for drinks. You will like to tip too. Have a nice trip.
you will need to take what ever currency you have in your home country. that is dollars 拢 euros etc.
However if you are going on a Nile cruise you will arrive in luxor and be taken straight to your boat. While you will be able to change money on your boat it will be at a lower rate. you could go out to a bank that evening. they do stay open til quite late. there are also many ATM's in luxor but they are not 100% reliable. there are several for instance in the main corridor foyer of the sonesta hotel and there is also a bank there open til 10pm..
your best bet is probably to change money in luxor airport when you land. there are a number of banks in the airport arrival lounge before you go though passport control.they also sell visas. you will need egyptian pounds for general spending, shopping tips and for drinks etc. have a great time any other questions e mail me
