I might be traveling abroad with my school in two years and i need some advice?

I'm hoping to go to Spain. Would it help on my application if i were in some type of spanish club or something? and any advice on what to take (clothes, travel guides, etc...), or how much money i should take? any advice will help! Thanks!I might be traveling abroad with my school in two years and i need some advice?
I am wondering about the type of trip that you are taking; why would you need an application?

If it is through some sort of group and you must apply then by all means join the Spanish club. Generally when you take the school trips you do not have much time on your own and therefore a travel guide will not help you immensely. On the other hand if you do end up with an hour or two it may be nice to look at a guide book so that you can make the best use of your time.

Most trips with schools put you in tourist class hotels. This means that you will be on the 5th or 6th floor and the elevators are slow and very small so you will likely be carrying your luggage up all of those stairs. Pack lightly! By the time you reach the 4th floor you will be glad you did.

Some teachers set rules about the clothing; Spaniards generally do not wear shorts. If you want to look like an American then wearing shorts will make you look like one. They wear slacks and skirts.

You can take cash (I would definitely have some) but travelers checks and an ATM card are good to have. If you end up needing more money than you thought, you can use the ATM machines. Be careful with the conversions and make sure that you realize just how much money you are taking out when you put in the amount in Euros. For a 10 day trip we usually told our students to bring about $300.00 but that having an ATM was a good idea with at least another 100.00 or more.

You will have to tip your tour guide and your bus driver as well. Usually the teacher collects this. Be sure that you have small bills to contribute for tips.

Google images of Spanish Euros so that you can be familiar with it before you go. This will help you to know your money and not make mistakes with it.I might be traveling abroad with my school in two years and i need some advice?

If you have two years, learning the language or joining a cultural club would be a major plus. Pack as lightly as you can (I swear by it!) I know it's hard, but just pack the essential outfits and shoes you need. (It leaves room for shopping and bringing home great things you bought!)

I'm the kind of person who believes in using travel guides and building an intenerary - Frommers is an amazing guide. Remember to visit historic places and eat at great restaurants, but remember to have fun, especially if you're young. There should be clubs and theater and things.

Bring a fair amount of money, you'll never know when you need it. Just be careful about crime and losing things!

You have two years, so prepare, research, and have the best trip ever! Good luck!
