Can you be sued for giving free advice?

Yes, if you give legal or medical advice, even financial advice, you can get sued. Even if you never enter into a contract with the person to whom you give advice. I suggest drawing up a contact for $1.00 before you give any advice...lolCan you be sued for giving free advice?
Yes. No. Maybe. Depends.

Seriously, it does depend on a number of things. Was it ';advice'; or were you really a salesperson? If the latter, should it have been obvious that you were selling something, or were you disguising your sales pitch as ';advice';? Were you selling, and the buyer wasn't aware that you were paid on commission?

If it's advice, are you a professional giving advice? Doctors might get sued for medical advice, but are unlikely to get sued if they give bad investment advice.

Sometimes just how bad the advice is can be a factor. A priest that gives advice in a marriage counseling is probably immune, unless he advises a wife who has been beaten for years to stick the marriage out, and is beaten to death the next week.

It just really depends on the circumstances. I can tell you for sure that if you think you can sue someone for advice here on Yahoo!, my advice is to go jump in a lake.Can you be sued for giving free advice?
You can be sued for anything. Can you prevail - unlikely.

If you are a professional (lawyer, doctor, etc.), you could possible lose your license if the information was proven to be totally wrong or intentionally misleading.
Well I'd say it would probably depend on what Free advice you gave someone, if you gave them advice how to harm someone else or rob someone yes I'd say that would be considered illegal?
In this country you can sued for anything, that doesn't mean the plaintiff will win however
One does not ever really know because the law can be changed at any given time. As my law teacher once said: '; there is no clear-cut definition of law.';
No, Free advice is worth every penny :)
