Some Advice/Questions about dogs.. Do they NEED to be neutered?

I'll be getting a puppy in a few months and I am just wondering wat are the benefits of neutering a dog. Either male or female? Does it impact upon their behaviour? Are there recognisable differences in behaviour between males and females?

This might be a dumb question but I'm just unsure because as far as I know, it just stops them from reproducing..Thanks!Some Advice/Questions about dogs.. Do they NEED to be neutered?
In a word, yes, they need to be neutered. Unless a dog is a part of a planned breeding program, there is no good reason not to neuter them.

There are many behavioral and health considerations. Un-neutered dogs are at a higher risk of cancer and other reproductive health problems.

Males mark territory in and out of the house with urine, they are much more likely to run away and be hit by cars if they smell a female in heat.

Females are messy when they go into heat and are at risk for an unplanned pregnancy unless they are kept confined in a house with no whole males 24/7. They have a much calmer disposition once they are spayed. They also sometimes mark territory. Some Advice/Questions about dogs.. Do they NEED to be neutered?
It also stops them from getting cancers of those parts, and will reduce undesireable behaviours. Female dogs will often get quite stressed when in heat, and will cry and mount other dogs or furniture or people, and will try to escape. Male dogs may mark with urine, hump other dogs/furniture/people, and try to escape to find female dogs in heat. Both of them may get quite frustrated.

Neutering decreases reactive behaviour and aggression in some males, spaying increases reactive behaviour and aggression in some females. It's funny, isn't it, that it has such opposite effects! There's much more of an effect on the reproduction-related behaviours than there is on aggression.

Having said that, my male dog had no aggression or reactiveness either before or after he was neutered, and my female dog didn't get more reactive and aggressive after being spayed. Anyone who gives you a hard-and-fast rule that applies to ALL dogs is stretching the truth most of the time, we're just talking about changing likelihoods. The only universals are that dogs who don't have those parts can't have cancer in them, and that the dogs can't reproduce afterwards.
It doesn't need to be done.

A dog will never have behavioural issue just because it is intact, they are the result of unsuitable lifestyle or inadequate training or socialisation.

It can reduce issues, because the dog is less wired to want to breed, but many people have intact dogs that are very friendly even to other intact males even when there is a ***** in heat in proximity.

If you get it done early enough, you shouldn't notice any difference in personality but if you leave it later then you might.

People have a whole load of ';reasons'; why research supports them having it done - produced ofcourse either by vets who make the money or shelters who don't want any more pups.

My main concern, is ';accidental'; breeding occurring and if you need to ask yourself whether you take the situation seriously enough to be responsiblee and take all precausions to prevent that from happening if you do leave you dog intact.

Me personally, i'd keep a dog intact. I'd more likely than not get a ***** spayed at about 1 year old unless she has a sucessful career just because i find it inconvenient enough havin to deal with my own periods never mind having a ***** having hers all over my couch.
If you plan to never get into responsible breeding, then yes you should neuter. My VET has always told me, that if it is done while they are young, 6 months, then usually there are no changes in personality or behavior. I have heard some negatives to neutering, I will leave that up to you to ask your VET about, but all in all I think you should neuter him. Spaying, I've heard pros %26amp; cons as well. I can tell you I have a 5 year old female Chihuahua, she has been spayed since 2006 %26amp; I have not had any problems due to it, other than it did change her behavior slightly, but she was already 2 years old, when the spay was done. Yes it stops them from reproducing %26amp; lowers the risks of certain cancers. Do your research on the subject also ask your VET, I think if you can be responsible %26amp; not let them come in contact with another male or female to mate, then there is nothing wrong with leaving them intact either. It depends really on your individual dog, if it's a male with a retained testicle, then you want to definitely neuter him because he has a high risk for testicular cancer, so it just depends, make sure you consult your VET about your dog to make sure you do the right thing.
Yes, they should. It reduces health problems and behavior dramatically. Males and females alike are calmer, less aggressive, and don't wander. No matter what people say, there are always accidental litters. The proof is on this website, there are always questions about a pregnancy and how they claim the dog has ';never'; seen another dog.

sigh

PEOPLE who say dogs need to have pups are morons, dogs don't CARE for pups, IT'S ALL INSTINCT. You CANNOT compare dogs to humans. It's childish, and it's dangerous, to breed dogs so they have a taste of ';motherhood'; total BS. Dogs don't want pregnancy, stop pretending that they do.
Speaking for myself alone and living where I do. I will never alter a security or watch dog's reproductions. They are less alert, less aggressive and I believe they become more timid. We carefully keep our female dogs in purdah whenever they are in season and have never, never had any unwanted pups! Anyone who only wants a dog for a pet then it's o.k.
For male dogs, there is no medical necessity. In fact, there are risks involved, especially if you do it before the age of 2.

Of course you should. There are several reasons why. Try some of the links below.-

it only stops them from producing puppies...it has nothing to the with behavior...it might calm them down a bit but they can still be as hyper as before the surgery...
DEFIANTLY! the dog acts better, dosn't run away that much, lives longer, and you prevent pet over population
Yes you should. It helps behavior.things like that
if you were my son/daughter i'd have advised you otherwise. i have 4 sons %26amp; a daughter 1 daughter. ihavent spayed either of them. they enjoy their sexual life fully. i got my only ***** to whelp once %26amp; she had only 1 pup. but later i spayed her. she doesnt have any more kids but she has the taste of motherhood. why should deprive the poor creatures their natural life[ its one of their basic needs. just because you feed theem %26amp; take care of them it doesnt give you sole authority over their lives. take care that the population desnt increase. take care of the girl who is only responsible for a rise in population.
I wouln't it could be very painful to some dogs and some dogs can get very depressed. That is just my opinion but if you have both male and female you can just put a diaper on the male. Trust me it works that is what i do and it works like magic :)
